Project Description:

The goal of the proposed Ortiz Center project is to use a community-driven, community-engaged research (CD-CEnR) approach to create an exhibition of creative works from the Tertulias research study. Funding from the Ortiz Center will allow us to provide a stipend to engage 8 women who were participants in the study to plan and implement the gala exhibition and 2-week installment event of approximately 80-100 creative works, and will support physical aspects of creating an exhibition (e.g., set-up fee, printing, display supplies like small easels). We will launch an event at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) followed by a month-long installation of the creative works at the Mexican Consulate in Albuquerque. The NHCC will waive some of the fees for the gala exhibition event because it aligns with their mission. We will invite all 252 participants and their families, plus people from the community and from our professional networks. The Mexican Consulate will provide the installation space without charge.
